The Meaning of Dhikr

Our Master, the venerable Sheikh Muhammad Nazim Adil al Haqqani said of Dhikr:

"If you put a poisonous drink in front of someone who doesn’t believe it is poison, don’t you think it would affect him anyway? In the same way people, who do not believe, will still be affected spiritually.  If Holy Words are really from Heaven, they must have an affect.  Spiritual masters can use Holy Words from Holy Books, and he can order his followers to repeat them, and there will be a reaction and a result.  That is why we use such words and it is the meaning of Zikr.

Repeating Holy Names must have an affect on our personality.  It can remove something useless and replace it with something good.  It should be the destiny of everyone to develop their personality and to reach their real being."
