Laylatu l-Qadr (Rules of behaviour during the “Night of Destiny”)

1)      Intention: I intend to start the forty… (see fourth page of the Book of Devotions from beginning)

2)      After the night prayer and the following Sunnah (two raka’at), recite the adab of the tariza [i.e.: the small wazifa—The Lesser Devotions)

3)      Express the intention to fast the next day.

4)      Pray Salatu Tarawih (20 raka’at )

5)      Pray Salatu Tasbih (four raka’at in jama’at)

6)      Pray Salatu Shukr (thanksgiving prayer (two raka’at in jama’at)]

7)      Pray Salatu l-Witr with Qunut invocation (three raka’at in jama’at)

8)      Khatmu l-Khwajagan and dhikr.

9)      Then stay awake all night reading the Holy Qur’an and practicing the award until sunrise.

10)  It is praiseworthy to pray during the vigil from 20 to 100 raka’at reciting (during its execution) Suratu l-Fatiha together with the first verse ( or verses) only, form the second Surah till the last.

11)  During the following day it is advisable, in fact it is necessary to make two sacrifices for the Face of Allah, the Highest, the All-Mighty, to thank Allah and to amend (the shortcomings) of your fast. You should offer it for the community of the Prophet Muhammad (saw) and for the people of the Tariqa, distributing the meat to the poor and the needy. This is a tradition that Mawlana Sultan al-Awliya always followed throughout his life.
